Through my work, I seek to evoke emotions and bring them to the brink of your consciousness. I want to re-create the twilight between vivid dreaming and the first few moments of awakening, capture that space, and invite you in.
My paintings often come to life without the interference of conscious thought. Sometimes there's a color or series of colors I'm drawn to before my tool touches the canvas. For me, painting is largely visual improvisation. Rather than trying to control the experience, I try to give way to it. I never quite know what what will emerge.
I use texture and light to express emotion connecting our inner and outer worlds. I use vibrant color to project the intensity of both realms. Placement of earthy and ethereal subjects suggest a visceral view of the outer world; one which mirrors the personal, human experience.
